Foam Flower (Tiarella cordifolia) [tee-ar-EL-lah kor-dih-FOE-lee-ah]

Family Saxifragaceae
Description

Tiarella cordifolia, commonly known as foamflower, is a charming, shade-loving perennial native to eastern North America. This herbaceous plant typically grows 8-12 inches tall, with a spreading habit that makes it an excellent ground cover. Its heart-shaped, deeply lobed leaves, which emerge in shades of bronze-green in spring and mature to a rich, dark green with prominent veins, add a delicate texture and visual interest to shady gardens. In late spring and early summer, Tiarella cordifolia produces delicate, feathery flower spikes that rise above the foliage, showcasing a beautiful display of tiny, white to pale pink flowers that resemble delicate foam. These flowers attract pollinators and add a touch of airy elegance to the garden. Tiarella cordifolia prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial to full shade, making it a valuable addition to woodland gardens, shady borders, and rock gardens.
