Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium purpureum) Eutrochium per-per-EE-um

Eutrochium purpureum, commonly known as sweet Joe-Pye weed, is a striking native perennial that brings bold color and texture to late-summer gardens. Forming tall, upright clumps up to 6 feet in height, this Joe-Pye weed features large, whorled leaves that are a rich, dark green. In mid to late summer, the plant bears spectacular, domed clusters of tiny, lavender-pink flowers that rise above the foliage on reddish-purple stems. These showy, nectar-rich blooms attract a wide array of pollinators, including butterflies, moths, and hummingbirds. Adaptable to a range of moist soil conditions and tolerant of partial shade, Eutrochium purpureum makes an excellent choice for the back of perennial borders, rain gardens, and naturalized areas, where its towering presence and long-lasting flowers will provide a dramatic, late-season highlight.
