Description

Carex vulpinoidea is a common native North American sedge that forms dense, upright clumps. Growing 12-36 inches tall, this species features narrow, green leaf blades and distinctive, cylindrical flower/fruit spikes.

Fox Sedge prefers consistently moist to wet, well-drained soils in full sun to partial shade conditions. It is naturally found in marshes, wet meadows, and other wetland habitats.

In the landscape, Carex vulpinoidea makes an excellent choice for rain gardens, pond edges, and other moisture-retentive planting areas. Its clumping habit helps stabilize soil and provide habitat for wetland wildlife. Fox Sedge also offers visual interest with its dense, cylindrical inflorescences. With minimal maintenance required, it is a resilient and adaptable native sedge.
