Convallaria majalis, commonly known as lily-of-the-valley, is a beloved perennial groundcover prized for its fragrant, bell-shaped white flowers and bright green, glossy foliage. This woodland plant features arching stems that rise up in the spring, displaying clusters of delicate, sweetly scented blooms. Lily-of-the-valley thrives in partial to full shade conditions and moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil, readily spreading by underground rhizomes to fill in shaded areas. While the entire plant is considered highly poisonous if ingested, the plant's classic spring flowers and ability to spread and carpet the ground make it a popular choice for woodland gardens, shade gardens, and as a border or edging plant. Convallaria majalis also adapts well to container growing.
