Description

Fragaria virginiana, commonly known as the wild or Virginia strawberry, is a charming native ground cover prized for its delectable fruit and ornamental appeal. This low-growing perennial forms a dense mat of lush green, trifoliate leaves that remain attractive throughout the growing season. In spring, the plants produce delicate white flowers that give way to small, intensely flavored red strawberries. Though diminutive in size, the wild strawberry's fruit is incredibly sweet and bursting with natural strawberry flavor. Spreading readily by runners, Fragaria virginiana makes an excellent choice for groundcover plantings, rock gardens, and woodland edges, where its beauty and edibility can be fully appreciated. Adaptable to a range of soil conditions and sun exposures, this native ground cover adds year-round interest and functionality to the landscape.
